Northern Michigan Service Group is an independent home inspection and radon mitigation company based in Traverse City, serving buyers, sellers, second-home owners and Realtors across all of Northern Michigan.
Our story
Northern Michigan isn't just where we work. It's home.
Our story began with a simple goal: help people better understand and protect the homes they’re buying, selling, and caring for. What started as Traverse City Home Inspections grew through years of serving homeowners, buyers, real estate professionals, and families throughout the region—one home and one relationship at a time.
As Northern Michigan has grown, so have the needs of the people who live here. Today, Northern Michigan Service Group represents the next chapter of that story. We’re building on the experience and reputation that got us here while expanding the services, technology, and expertise we can provide homeowners throughout the region.
But our approach hasn’t changed. We believe in doing the job thoroughly, communicating clearly, and treating every home as if it were our own. We know the communities, the seasons, and the unique challenges that come with owning a home in Northern Michigan because we live and work here too.
OUR MISSION
A house is the largest thing most people will ever buy, and it is usually bought under a deadline, in a market that rewards speed. Our job is to slow that moment down just long enough for you to see clearly.
Report every material defect, plainly, with a photograph and a reason it matters
Separate the urgent from the eventual from the cosmetic, every time
Never sell a repair we found ourselves, with one disclosed exception: radon mitigation
Answer the phone after the sale, for as long as you own the house

What makes us different
We hold credentials Michigan does not require
Michigan does not license home inspectors. We maintain InterNACHI CPI and NRPP radon certifications and complete continuing education every year.
Radon testing and mitigation in one company
We are NRPP-certified for measurement and mitigation, so an elevated result becomes a scheduled installation — no need to hunt for a contractor.
Reports written for out-of-state buyers
A large share of Northern Michigan buyers live somewhere else. Every report includes all major findings, a prioritized repair list, and a scheduled phone review.
Seasonal services for all property owners
Spring open-ups, fall winterizations and checks for second homes and rentals. We work the calendar this climate actually runs on, not a generic annual checklist.
The credentials we hold, and why they matter.
Michigan sets no bar for home inspectors. These are the credentials we chose to carry anyway. Ask any inspector you consider for the same.
InterNACHI CPI
Certified Professional Inspector. Annual continuing education, code of ethics, standards of practice.
NRPP Certified
National Radon Proficiency Program, certified for both testing and mitigation system design.
Honor Guarantee
InterNACHI-backed honor guarantee plus general liability, with Realtor referral coverage included.
Michigan Registered
Registered Michigan LLC, fully insured. Certificate of insurance available on request.
